Edema & Footwear - Pedors Classic & Classic Max

I'd like to spend some time today discussing the various problems and challenges Lymphoedema sufferers face when shopping for appropriate footwear.
Apart from sending Pedors shoes all over Australia, FitnWell Footwear work on the front line in Melbourne attending, via Practioner referral, the most challenging feet. Lymphoedema would be very high on the list of challenges we face.
Patients in socks, diabetic slippers, thick flat plastic sandals many sizes too long for the wearer, canvas flats at breaking point or thongs are what we are often faced with.
We have met people who are housebound unless they torture their poor feet, squeezing into an enirely unsuitable pair of shoes. They're not happy about their shoe selection or their options. This is why we enjoy the challenge and find the experience of helping people improve the quality of their lives so rewarding.
We recently fitted a lady with quite severe Lymphoedema, she had been unable to wear footwear of any kind for six months. After trying and failing with many 'comfort' shoes she was told she required custom made shoes. These were out of her price range, she was stuck until she found us.
The two aspects of the Pedors Classic and Classic Max that make them such exceptional shoes for swollen feet, and which separate Pedors from other “stretch” footwear are these; true stretch material and heat mouldability.
The combination of Neoprene and EVA in the manufacturing process allow the shoe to retain its shape without anything rigid in the forefoot. The result is a true four way stretch shoe. This gives you comfort as the swelling may increase or decrease over the course of the day. The length of the touch closure supports the wearer on good days and bad. In addition to this, the heat mouldability of the material allows expansion of the forefoot area. Another unique offering from Pedors with the Classic Max is the range of sizes and more importantly widths. This shoe is available in up to width size 7E!
Having seen the many different options available in the Orthopaedic Footwear market, and having succesfully fitted many severe cases of Lymphoedema, we are absolutely convinced that the Pedors Classic or Classic Max could be the solution for Lymphoedema sufferers everywhere.
Wishing you good health,
Steve Masters
