It's All About Sole

There are many factors contributing to falls, today I thought I’d draw attention to your soles. When was the last time you flipped your shoes over and checked your soles?
Did you know many of the Aged Care Facilities conduct shoe audits? Others inspect shoes, especially the soles, when new residents move in. Our Aged Care Homes have a responsibility to look after their residents. Calling a family to tell them their Mum/Dad has taken a fall is not a pleasant part of the job, particularly if it can be prevented.
Many of us have our favourite pair of old comfy shoes, the leather is worn in and nice and soft. May I suggest flipping them over and checking the soles next time you go to put them on? Keep an eye on your slippers too. Have your soles replaced or get a new pair of shoes/slippers, whatever keeps you active, stable, secure and standing is the ideal.
You wouldn’t drive around with bald tyres on your car. Sure, you might not be travelling at the same speed as a car but when there’s nothing between you and a solid path or timber floor the impact can be quite severe.
The recovery from a fall is often slow and painful, a quick check of the soles could be all that’s required to take a safer path and keep you moving on down the road!
Happy travels to all!
